James’ family have been in the London insurance market since 1925.  James himself started in the reinsurance market in 1986 on the underwriting side handling LMX claims before two years as an 

underwriting assistant with C.R. Driver & Company; moving in 1990 to the specialist reinsurance broker Greig Fester Limited. 

During the 16 years with Greig Fester/Benfield (now Aon) James was responsible for the technical support for many of the World’s largest (re)insurers primarily in the retrocession market but also leading the technical team handling direct and facultative, personal accident, workman’s compensation, kidnap and ransom business.  As a side-line James was also was involved in many internal technology and change projects.   

In 2006 James joined the independent reinsurance broker Alwen Hough Johnson Ltd to manage their broker support teams and take responsibility for the implementation of their market reform, internal compliance, operational and technology projects. 

In 2011 James moved to the London & International Insurance Brokers’ Association (LIIBA) who represent the interests of Lloyd’s insurance and reinsurance brokers operating in the London and intern international markets.  LIIBA have the support of the vast majority of Lloyd’s Brokers, accounting for over 95% of the Market’s business. 

Currently James is extensively involved operational and technological oversight, governance and change in the London Market.  James is the broker representative on the LIMOSS Board, PPL Board, ACORD London Advisory Board, various Velonetic Groups, Blueprint 2 and Chairs the LMG’s MRC Committee. 

Outside of work James is a keen golfer sadly lacking any discernible golfing talent.
